SYW Global Campaign - 1757, Year-end Summary

At the start of 1757, the following alliances were made:
France, Spain, and Prussia vs Britain, Russia, and Austria
Ottomans and Dutch remained neutral

Colonial

  • Indian rebels took Bengal with two step losses, consolidated towards Marathas for winter.
  • On the last turn, Dutch fleet moved to attack/blockade Ceylon, British fleet engaged. Both fleets took two step losses. British fleets retreat to Madras port, two Dutch fleets retreat to Ceylon port while Dutch flagship fleet remains blockading Madras.
  • With the Dutch and French fleets at sea, Austria played "Monsoon" - all fleets at sea took a step loss and had to retreat to their ports. No one was able to collect from the theatre this turn.


  • Rebels attacked Malacca and succeeded in one turn, proceeded to attack and take Padang.

  • Spanish attacked and took Belize with one step loss.
  • France played "Loudon's Embargo" and "Provincials go home", 13 colonies chit took a step loss and retreated to Virginia. British evacuated 13 colonies army to Caribbean.
  • French advanced on New England, and successfully took it with negligible casualties on turn 1. French advanced on New York, and successfully took it with one step loss on turn 2. French advanced into Virginia, and successfully took it with with no step losses on turn 3, and spent winter in Lower Canada.
  • British fleets hunted the combined Franco-Spanish fleet in Caribbean. However, the Franco-Spanish fleet was able to escape with no damage.
  • By winter, Britain has 3 fleets in the Caribbean, France has 2, and Spanish has 1.

Europe

  • Aranda's army advanced on Gibraltar with combined fleets, Spanish took Gibraltar with one step loss.
  • French fleets from Brittany combined with Spanish fleet and Naples' transport fleet to attack Tuscanny. British played "Scurvy". A French fleet took one step loss but Spain took Tuscanny.
  • On turn 1, Austria acted before France and retreated from Lombardy to Venice, consolidated all local forces there with the 2-1 cavalry crops till in Vienna. France then advanced on Lombardy with its 8 chit mega army. Austria played "Scorched earth". France still proceeded to siege and took Lombardy with negligible casualties.
  • On turn 2, France advanced on Venice with the support of Naples corps and inflicted heavy casualties on the defending Austrians. See Major Battle 3. French successfully took Venice.

  • On turn 1, Prussian acted first and attacked Hanover for France (their ally) before the British could retreat, and forced the British to surrender completely. See Major Battle 1. Prussia successfully took Hanover for France, in exchange for resources.
  • Prussia sieged Hesse while proceeding to attack Bohemia.
  • France advanced on Netherlands and successfully took it with negligible casualties. The army spent winter in Netherlands.
  • British navy entered Easter Atlantic in summer (turn 2) to hunt the French fleets. Both fleets took a step loss. French fleets retreated to the newly taken Gibraltar, British fleets remained in control of Eastern Atlantic.

  • Prussia (Frederick) proceeded south to linked with the army at Saxony to attack Bohemia, before Austria could react. The battle wiped out most of the Austrian chits on the field except for a single cavalry corps that escaped to Vienna. See Major Battle 2. Prussia successfully took Bohemia.

  • Russia invaded Poland. Poland became a minor ally of Prussia. Due to their high scouting roll, the Polish army retreated into Warsaw. Russia took Polonia with a step loss to the cavalry corp, which retreated to origin.
  • Russia proceeded to invade East Prussia. Prussia plays "Burned bridges", which prevented the Russian army from taking further moves and halves their attack strength. Russia took East Prussia by the end of turn 1.
  • Prussia acted first on turn 2, united with the Polish army and attacked East Prussia. Ottomans played "troop revolt" on Russia, preventing the reserve from coming in. Ottomans also played "debase currency" on Russia. Overall, the battle wiped out all the Russian chits on the field. See Major Battle 4. Prussia took back East Prussia.
